munkakör betöltésére. _____________________________________________________________________________ French political Science Association/Political science employment opportunities _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Chair in Sociology _____________________________________________________________________________________ FULL‐TIME ACADEMIC POSITION _________________________________________________________________________________________ A Republikon Intézet 2011 tavaszán (az egyetemi szemeszterhez igazodva) két fő számára lehetőséget biztosít, hogy gyakornokként bekapcsolódjon az Intézet napi működésébe: egyikük a politikai elemzés területén, a másik gyakornok pedig kommunikációs és projektmenedzseri feladatokban szerezhet értékes szakmai tapasztalatokat. A gyakornokok heti 16 órában, kötetlen munkabeosztásban a Republikon székhelyén (Budapest, II. kerület Harangvirág u. 7.) segítik az Intézet munkáját. A gyakornoki program résztvevői aktívan előkészítik és részt vesznek az Intézet projektjeiben; kutatásokat folytatnak, háttértanulmányokat készítenek és kreatív feladatokat látnak el, segítik a futó projektek koordinálását.

The Academy is looking for four Teaching and Research Fellows for the following graduate level courses:
Cases in International Relations; Foreign Policy Analysis; Political Economy; Comparative Politics:
Democratization Studies. The OSCE Academy will provide/cover: Economy class roundtrip airfare from
the city of current residence to Bishkek (international scholars); Entry visa expenses to Kyrgyzstan, if any;
Housing allowance of 350 euros per month (for international fellows); Honorarium of 750 Euros per month

Topics: The position's thematic focus lies on questions of constructing the self and the other, i.e. processes

historical perspective. Possible further topics include current problems in negotiating difference and questions
of universalism and relativism with respect to norms of transnational human rights. The position's teaching
program includes approximately 72 lessons, to be taught in German and/or English. The syllabus consists
of block courses at the Universities of Basel and Zurich, as well as classes at other Swiss universities
participating in the Network Gender Studies CH. The salary corresponds to the customary wage level of
domestic mid-level faculty.

DPDF Faculty Field Competition Institution/Organiser: The Social Science Research Council (SSRC)

Topics: The Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship (DPDF) is designed to help early-stage graduate
students in the humanities and social sciences formulate effective doctoral dissertation proposals. Senior
scholars serve as Research Directors and identify research fields for groups of 12 graduate students. The
Research Directors design two workshops: one, held in the spring, to prepare students to undertake summer
research that will inform the design of their dissertation proposals; the other, held in the fall, to help students
apply their summer research experiences to writing dissertation and funding proposals. Working together,
Research Directors and graduate students help shape emerging fields in the humanities and social sciences.
Annually, the DPDF’s Selection Committee selects five research fields, each proposed by two senior faculties
with different institutional affiliations and, as relevant, different disciplinary specializations. Selected Research
Directors design and lead the two student workshops, and serve as mentors to the fellows during the course
of their summer research. Each Research Director receives a stipend of $10,000 for preparing and running
the workshops, and for being available to students over the summer.
Eligibility: Applicants must be based at different universities in the United States and have records of carrying
out research activities and mentoring graduate students. At least one member of each team must be a tenured
faculty member at a doctoral degree-granting program, and both must be tenured at the time of application.
Applicants must be trained in different disciplines or bring different methodological frameworks to their proposed
field. Research Directors must be available to participate in both the spring and fall workshops, the dates for
which can be found in the DPDF Application and Award Timeline below.

Position of Senior Researcher/Analyst, Temporary Agent (AD8)

Kind of support/work: The Senior Researcher/Analyst will lead the Team for gender-specific areas within
the Operations Unit of the Institute. The jobholder will conduct gender and social policy analysis and
research and will also coordinate the work in selected priority areas.

Duties: In addition to coordinating the work of the Team for gender-specific areas, the jobholder will be
responsible for the following: collection and classification of research on gender equality; development
of methods of gender analysis and research; planning and conducting surveys and research in
co-operation with the Experts' Forum, advising the Institute on possible areas of research; preparation
of reports and presentation of information in line with the Institute's work programme and the needs
of its stakeholders; co-coordination of the liaison with the Experts' Forum and stakeholders; collection
and processing of existing materials as well as the preparation of publications.
Eligibility: An applicant must be a national of a Member state of the European Union; hold a university
degree which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma when the normal period
of university education is four years or more or have a level of education which corresponds to completed
university studies attested by a diploma and appropriate professional experience of at least one year when
the normal period of university education is at least three years; have at least nine years of proven work
experience, following the award of a diploma. Applicants are required to have a good command, both
spoken and written, of at least two official EU languages.

2011-2012 EURIAS Fellowship

Topics: The European Institutes for Advanced Study (EURIAS) Fellowship Programme is an international
researcher mobility programme offering 33 fellowships for the 2011-2012 academic year. The Programme
builds on the strong reputation of the Institutes for Advanced Study for promoting the concentrated,
self-directed work of excellent researchers within the stimulating environment of a multi-disciplinary
and international group of fellows. EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities
and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in natural and exact sciences, if their proposed
research project does not require laboratory facilities. The diversity of the 14 participating IAS — which
have agreed on a common selection procedure — offers a wide range of possible research contexts in
Europe for worldwide scholars. Applicants select up to three IAS outside their country of nationality or
residence as possible host institutions. The Programme welcomes applications worldwide from promising
scholars at an early stage of their careers as well as from established senior researchers. During their
fellowship, EURIAS fellows benefit from the high-quality research environment and working conditions
provided by the host Institute. All IAS have agreed on common standards, including the provision of a

Research Fellow in Social Anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and

Topics: This position is attached to the Department for Archeology and Social Anthropology (IAS).
The theme for the position is the anthropology of identity with focus on interethnic articulations and
interactions in Northern Russia. The successful candidate will integrate their topic with the on-going
research in one or more themes in the Department such as indigeneity, northern resource management,
urban and rural forms of identity, or the ethnohistory of indigenous peoples in Russia. For the purposes
of this application ‘Northern Russia’ is defined broadly to include not only the North of European Russia
but also both the tundra and taiga areas of Siberia. The committee will give preference to candidates
who can show a link between their research and one of two current field projects underway in the
Department concerning Russia: the project ‘Kola Saami Herders in Post-Soviet Society: Ethnopolitics

Eligibility: The successful applicant must document knowledge in Social Anthropology at Master’s level
or equal. Further, the successful applicant must fulfil the requirements for admission to the faculty’s
PhD programme, cf. §6 of Regulations for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) at The University
of Tromsø, English translation and the faculty’s supplementary regulations. The candidate must be
fluent in either English or Norwegian. It will be considered an advantage that the candidate has some
proficiency in the Russian language and a working knowledge of any other relevant language for
fieldwork such as one of the languages of the indigenous peoples of the region.

Humanity in Action (HIA) and the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice are
pleased to announce that applications are now open for the Lantos/HIA Congressional Fellowship
- a four-month paid fellowship in the U.S. Congress.
One position in this program is open for a Hungarian university student or for a young professional in
Hungary who completed his or her studies in January 2010 or more recently.
In this program, participants will get the chance to serve as a legislative fellow in the U.S. Congress.
Participants will work four days a week in the office of a legislative committee or a member of the U.S.
House of Representatives.
Unlike a traditional internship, more than half of the fellows' work is often dedicated to substantive policy
or research projects. Participants will also spend one day away from the office each week attending small
group seminars with many of the leading experts, activists, and policy makers in Washington DC.

New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest, Romania – announces the competition
for Fellowships for the academic year 2011-12.
The program targets young international researchers/academics working in the fields of humanities,
social studies, and economics.
Eligibility: Applicants must be doctoral students in an advanced stage of their research, or hold a
Ph.D. title. Preference is given to candidates under the age of 40, and to those who have not yet benefited
from a NEC Fellowship. Working languages: English, French, and German. A good command of English
is desirable.
Duration of the Fellowship: a) a full academic year (10 months, October through July) or b) a one-term
fellowship (October through February, or March through July). This second possibility is open only to
international fellows.
Location: New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study, Bucharest, Romania.
The Fellowship consists of: a monthly stipend of 600 Euro (tax free), accommodation, international
transportation to and from the home country of the Fellows at the beginning and the end of the Fellowship,
as well as for season holidays. The Fellows who stay for the whole academic year are offered a one-month
research trip abroad to an institution of their choice (2,600 Euro for transportation, accommodation, and
per diem). As an alternative, they can opt for a field research, in Romania or outside it.
The Fellows are expected to work on their own projects, and take part in the scientific events organized
by the New Europe College. At the end of their Fellowship, each Fellow is expected to hand in a research
paper, reflecting the results of his/her work over the duration of the Fellowship. The papers will be included
in a NEC publication.
